100 YEARS after the death of musical genius, composer Sir Arthur Sullivan, two societies have got together to commemorate the event.
Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society and Cirencester Light Operatic Society are performing Sullivan A Knight to Remember, at Swindon's New College on Saturday, October 21.
Steve Cass who is a member of both societies has written the opera, compiling the music from the Savoy operas. It tells the story of Sir Arthur Sullivan's life. He died on November 22, 1900.
"In Swindon we wanted to mark the event in some way but we didn't have the time to organise a concert of our own so we joined Cirencester,'' said Penny Perkins from the Swindon society.
Steve was a chorister at Bristol Cathedral School and he completed his music diploma with the Open University.
The guest soloist will be Maria Jagusz, mezzo soprano, who is half Polish but born in Lancashire.
"We co-operated several years ago in a concert but this is our first full show working together,'' said Penny.
Tickets from the Tourist Information Centre in Regent Street or from (01285) 655438.
