THERE is an unmissable night for fans of good music, fine playing and the new tradition that is contemporary folk at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon.
Few folk/rock bands can claim a pedigree to compare with The Albion Band,. Generally considered to be England's foremost acoustic band, and performing mostly original material, their appeal crosses all boundaries.
Fronted by Ashley Hutchings, the band has always been a showcase for the best musicians on the English folk scene.
The 'father of British folk rock', Ashley founded the three bands that changed the face of British folk music The Albion Band, Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention. The list of past members of the Albion Band reads like a Who's Who of folk music's greats, and includes Martin Carthy, Shirley Collins, John Kirkpatrick, Cathy Lesurf and many more.
The current line-up comprises Ashley Hutchings bass guitar and vocals; Kellie While and Ken Nicol guitar and vocals; Joe Broughton fiddle, and Neil Marshall drums and percussion.
If you haven't heard the Albion Band recently, you haven't heard the Albion Band. Long-standing fans will revel in the new energy; newcomers will become long-standing fans. They will be on stage at the Wiltshire Music Centre on Saturday, October 21, at 7.30pm. Box office: (01225) 860100.
