A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl's life was saved after she wandered away from her parents and was found face-down in the main swimming pool at the Center Parcs holiday village at Longleat.

Staff launched a desperate bid to resuscitate the girl after another guest noticed her thrashing around in the walk-in wave pool on Sunday, October 15.

After hauling her out of the water, staff took the girl to a resuscitation room where on-site medics attended to her before paramedics arrived.

The girl and her mother, from Surrey, were airlifted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by Wiltshire's air ambulance, which landed at nearby Cley Hill.

The girl was released on Monday and travelled home with her parents, who were said to be hysterical at the time of the accident.

Police believe the girl wandered off from her parents, who had been staying at the village in Longleat Forest, and was only in the pool for a matter of minutes.

Center Parcs spokesman Erica Spurrier said lifeguards were present and the quick thinking of another swimmer alerted staff to the situation.

She said: "There are always lifeguards around. Obviously we will look at the situation and it is one of the areas that we are particularly concerned about and we try to make sure that parents keep an eye on their children.

"Anything like that is always cause for concern but fortunately everyone did well and acted quickly.

"She was taken to hospital as quickly as possible and the air ambulance was a godsend in a situation like this."

PC Adrian Burt said: "The incident could have had far more serious consequences if it had not been for the quick thinking of another swimmer.

"It has once again proved how valuable the search helicopter is, which has the ability to convey patients to hospital within minutes."
