SWINDON Supermarine, just three points behind neighbours Highworth Town with two games in hand, notched up their tenth win on the trot when they defeated visitors Carterton Town by 3-0 in the Premier Division.
A stunning first 45 minutes by the South Marston side put the result beyond doubt as their front runners had the Carterton defence all at sea.
Early on Michael Silvanus was just foiled after breaking down the left flank. Richard Hadgkiss missed a great chance and Neil Matthews saw his goal bound header cleared off the line.
Supermarine took the lead on 20 minutes when young striker Matt Saye cut through beat the Carterton offside trap but was brought down by the visitors' keeper, who escaped with a yellow card.
From the free kick Tom Jones bent a brilliant free kick around the Carterton wall to open the scoring.
Two goals in five minutes from centre back Pete Farrow, both far post headers from corners, saw the South Marston side to go in at the break with a 3-0 lead.
However, Carterton's Phil Rodney had a great chance to pull a goal back minutes before the interval.
In a goalless second half they were a few scares at both ends as Carterton pushed forward looking to pull a goal back and Supermarine defending cutting the visitors on the break.
Highworth Town had a few anxious moments in the first 45 minutes at Milton but recovered to stage a second half rally and run out winners by 5-1.
Milton tool the lead on 22 minutes when keeper Anthony Betterton dropped a harmless looking cross and Jamie Evered poked the loose ball into the net.
The goal rocked Highworth who were lucky to go in at the break only 1-0 down.
Highworth manager Gary Goodwin had a few choice words to say to his side during the interval and, with substitute Nicky Hughes coming on soon after the restart, Highworth looked a different side.
Justin Miller equalised on 63 minutes after being put through by a good ball from Hughes. Peter Moss added a second on 73 minutes with a good individual goal.
Keith Walker headed in a third from a corner on 80 minutes and Jon Reeves rifled in a fourth from the edge of the box four minutes later.
Peter Moss rounded off the scoring in the last minute to give his side a slightly flattering 5-1 victory.
In Division One, Malmesbury Vics, at home to Clanfield, were beaten 5-2.
The Vics started well on what was a very heavy pitch and Danny Beck opened the scoring in the 30th minute for the Vics.
Steve Wright equalised for Clanfield in the 40th minute, Kevin Alcroft then scored their second before Malmesbury's Sacha Fast was bought down by Clanfield's goalkeeper, who surprisingly only received a yellow card. Garth Walsh scored from the spot.
Neil Barrett scored from a corner kick in the 45th minute to give Clanfield a 3-2 lead at half-time.
In the second half the Vics were chasing the game, and were caught with two breakaway goals, by Neil Barrett and Dave Cross, which left the score at full time 5-2 Clanfield.
