FORMER Olympic medallist Roger Black was taken by surprise when he arrived at a Melksham school.
Mr Black was at Lowbourne Junior School for a Super Schools sporting event and when he turned up in the school playground he was greeted by pupils and their teddy bears.
The sports challenge clashed with the school's fund raising efforts for the Royal United Hospital's Forever Friends appeal.
All the children took part in a number of sponsored games and sports. Half the money raised will be donated to the Super School's organisation and half is raised for the school to improve its grounds.
The children took part in sponsored gymnastics exercises and had their picture taken with Mr Black. Sponsorship money is still being counted.
After the activities Roger talked to the school about the importance of sport and the Super Schools event.
Super Schools gives grants to help children, with athletic talent, realise their sporting potential.
Lowbourne will use the money it raised to provide outdoor seating and shaded areas.
