WG PARR TROPHY: IN the preliminary round of the WG Parr Trophy (sponsored by Rainbow Launderette), The George Lacock from Division One had to work hard before beating Fourth Division Classic FC 5-1 to set up a first round match against last season's beaten finalists Corsham Park Rangers.

Chippenham Black Horse followed up last week's win over Old Lane United with victory over Miller Sports.

The all Third Division affair was settled by a penalty shoot out after 120 minutes had ended 2-2.

Dave Small gave the Horse the lead before Tim Knight then drew the Sports level. Mark Witts looked to have sent Horse through to the first round proper but Steve Cleverley's late equaliser for the Sports took the tie to extra-time.

With no further goals the match went to a penalties in which the Horse finally triumphed 4-2 thanks to successful spot kicks from Stuart Little, Ross Wilton, Terry French and Darren Wishton.

Black Horse goalkeeper Graham Jones produced fine stops to deny Anthony Jenkins and Tom Evans, after Cleverly and Tim Knight had converted their spot kicks.

Rangers' manager Jon Bird was surprised that the spot kick was awarded, claiming that his player had fallen over in the area while being challenged.

Steve Payne gave Black Horse Trowbridge a 1-0 lead against North Star B before Chris Long earned the Star the point from the 1-1 draw.

Old Road Tavern and Sir Audley Arms shared the spoils after a thrilling 3-3 draw. The Tavern took the lead through an own goal before John O'Meara equalised for the Arms. Ian Dover gave the Arms the lead only for the Tavern's Mark Barnett to level once again with an excellent individual effort.

A 40-yard free kick from Jerry Clarke, which would be a contender for any goal of the season award, edged the Tavern back in front before the second own goal of the match earned the Arms their point.

The Westbury derby between Peter Black and Westbury Rangers ended all square at 2-2.

The Blacks took a first minute lead through Sam Gooding, Steve Bruce and Steve Wyatt fired Rangers in front only for Shane Rendall to earn the Blacks a deserved point when he converted a 60th minute penalty.
