As the trout season draws towards a close, trout fishermen have enjoyed another good week on the Bristol Water reservoirs.

Bank fishing is now coming into full swing with fish being caught throughout the day on dries and nymphs.

Blagdon boat and bank fishers are still having good sport and the trout are still feeding close to the shore within reach of most anglers.

Small nymphs have produced the best catches.

Graham Farrant had a worthwhile day with a 6lb 8oz rainbow while fishing Corixa from Rainbow Point and Mr Perry's 16-boat fishermen enjoyed a day out taking 28 fish including fish of 5lb and 6lb.

Barrow number three is now fishing well with fish coming to dries and nymphs.

Fishers on number two reservoir are experiencing terrific sport with limit bags falling to dry fly. Chris Cavill has had three good days taking a total of 20 fish to 3lb 8oz.

It was a week of mixed fortunes on the Wessex water fisheries last week with only Clatworthy performing well in poor conditions.

At Clatworthy, 252 fish were taken with the best fish weighing 5lb.

Fish are now moving out of the shallows and most fish are being caught on Syndercomeb bank and at Tripp end of the lake.

Sinking lines and small lures work best and midday is the best time to fish.

At Hawkridge, 42 fish were taken. Clive Webber took the best fish of the week a rainbow of 3lb 12oz. Hawkridge will remain open for fishing until November 19.

At Sutton Bingham, Mike Burton took the best brown trout of the week weighing 3lb 9oz and Ken Cruikshanks took a 3lb 2oz rainbow.

Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing by Bernard Venebles is one of the best selling angling books of all time and now through a unique initiative, put together by the publishers of a 50th anniversary celebration edition of the book, a £3.33 donation will go into training schemes for youngsters run by the National Federation of Anglers and the Salmon and Trout Association. Last year, Sport England approved courses introduced more than 4000 youngsters to angling.

The donations from the sales of will be 'ring fenced' for future training courses so for £10 plus £1.50 p&p anglers can help to secure the future of angling by introducing youngsters to the joys of fishing.

The Calne match fished at Hazelands on Sunday was dominated by chub with some reasonable weights recorded.

Top honours on the day went to Calne's Simon Fear with an all chub catch weighing 13lb 1oz taken on stick-floated casters on an 18 hook. Pete Samuel was second with another chub catch weighing 8lb 7oz also taken on stick-floated casters on an 18 hook.

Chippenham's Mark Wooldridge was third with yet another all-chub catch weighing 7lb 6oz 8dm taken on pole-fished casters on an 18 hook. Other placings 4 Tim Carr, Calne 7lb 1oz; 5 Ron Faithful, Calne 5lb 11oz; 6 Rob Bullock, Chippenham 5lb 7oz 8 dm.

The Kennet and Avon Canal at Seend was in good form on Sunday for the Ushers Winter League match. Devizes AC took top spot to extend their lead at the head of the table with 75 points followed by West tackle with 62 and Avon 59.5. Individual honours went to Bradford's Pete Neate with a mixed bag of bream and skimmers weighing 16lb 3oz.

Runner-up spot went to Avon matchman Tony Gilbert with another bream and skimmer catch weighing 9lb 13oz taken from the next peg to the winner on pole-fished casters on an 18 hook.

Teammate Darren Fletcher took third prize with an all-tench catch weighing 9lb 3oz taken on pole-fished worm on an 18 hook.
