A host of stars from the world of sport and showbiz are flocking to Swindon for a charity football challenge.

The Swindon Town Eleven, managed by former town boss John Gorman, is taking on Jess Conrad's Showbiz XI for the match at the County Ground on Sunday, October 29, which is raising money for the NSPCC.

The Town Eleven will feature almost all of the team from the 1992/93 season which won promotion to the Premiership in the Division One play-offs at Wembley.

Most of the original players, including Glenn Hoddle, Micky Hazard and Shaun Taylor, have already agreed to play.

The Showbiz XI will be selected from a celebrity squad of stage, screen and sport stars from which appearances have been confirmed by Gary Wilmot, Angus Deayton, John Francombe and Tony McCoy.

Cliff Puffett, STFC director, said: "I am really delighted that we have been able to pull this event off from what was initially a dream.

Kick off is at 2pm with pre-match entertainment starting at 12.45pm.

Tickets for the match cost £10 for adults, £5 for juniors those aged 16 and under and £25 for a family ticket.

The ticket office can be contacted on Swindon 333777.
