Your support of the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust campaign aimed at encouraging the return to work of qualified nurses is very welcome and commendable.

Of course, our area is not the only one to be suffering from this particular skills shortage; it is something of a national problem.

What makes your efforts particularly important is the fact that we shall shortly have a new district hospital, with facilities more modern, and in some fields more extensive than those currently at Princess Margaret Hospital. What a tragedy it would be if these could not be used to the maximum because of a shortage of nursing staff! It would also be the loss of an opportunity for professional staff to be in at the beginning of an exciting new era in the provision of acute medical care in this district. So, please keep up the good work, my Council will help with the campaign in any way we can.
