TWO bras belonging to Swindon's biggest stars were up for grabs at a charity breakfast.
The event, at Brookfield School, Shaw, attracted 700 people and was hailed a success by its organisers.
Television presenter Melinda Messenger and pop star Billie Piper each donated and signed a bra, and these were then auctioned for the breast cancer
charity Breakthrough.
So far the combined bid for both bras has reached £1,200, although offers will be taken until Monday morning.
Organiser Eunice Salmon is a fundraiser for the Wiltshire branch of Breakthrough and said: "Originally I had hoped to top the £600 I raised at a charity breakfast in my home last year and it looks like this year's event could raise £2,500, including the bra auction."
"It has been absolutely fantastic and beyond our wildest dreams. Everyone there had a great time."
The breakfast was held in three sittings yesterday from 7am. Among the guests were Swindon's mayor and mayoress, Coun Arthur and Doris Archer, and South Swindon MP Julia Drown.
This was no rushed breakfast on the way to work but a banquet on tables adorned with china and flowers.
Several local firms agreed to donate gifts for the breakfast The Hilton National provided the china, Doves Farm Foods donated cereals, Sanridge gave sausages and bacon and Purton House Organics provided vegetables.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Britain has one of the highest incident rates of breast cancer in the world and it is estimated that one woman in 11 will fall victim to the illness in this country.
If you would like to make a sealed bid for either of the bras, phone Eunice on Swindon 871606 today or tomorrow.
