THE county council is running a competition to recognise the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers that work in many of Wiltshire's museums.
The museums are being asked to nominate a volunteer for the prize of Museum Volunteer 2000.
Each year volunteers in museums hold special events, put on exhibitions, carry out research and give talks, to promote and preserve the collections in their care.
The events vary from 1930s tea parties, fossil rubbing sessions for children, and lace-making workshops.
There are also dedicated volunteers who give hours of their time to preserve and document the museum collections or make recordings for oral history archives.
To recognise and celebrate the hard work of these volunteers the council is asking anyone working at a museum to nominate one of their associates.
A prize of £200 will be awarded to the museum the volunteer works for. The prize money is to be used in an imaginative way as possible to support the work undertaken by the volunteer staff. The award will presented on November 25.
