Swindon Supermarine 0, Yate Town 3: Swindon Supermarine made a shock first round exit from the FA Vase when they were beaten at home by Yate Town 3-0.
The visitors in the bottom half of the Premier Division table after a poor start to the season brought to an end a run of 11 consecutive wins by the South Marston side.
In the opening 20 minutes Supermarine looked well below par, the visitors looking much sharper and more direct and it came as no surprise when they took the lead on 24 minutes.
A harmless looking throw-in on the left was gathered by Williams who left the Supermarine keeper Chris Webb flat footed with a tremendous 35 yard volley.
The goal failed to spur the home side to greater efforts and just before the break they received a further blow when Tony Joyce sliced a hurried clearance into his own net to give Yate a 2-0 advantage at the break.
A different looking Supermarine side took the field after the interval Richard Hadgkiss having a good header saved by the keeper, Matt Saye missing a good chance from six yards and a shot by Doug Imrie hit the bar all in the first five minutes.
The home side continued to dominate the half with several half chances going begging but they failed to penetrate the resolute Yate defence who fought hard for every ball.
To add further to Supermarine's woe a long ball into the penalty area in the last minutes of the game was fumbled by keeper Chris Webb and Metheringham was on hand to fire the loose ball into the net for Yate's third goal and a place in the draw for the second round.
Supermarine manager Alan Dyton was disappointed after the final whistle.
He said: "After our disastrous first half we were always chasing the game and full credit to Yate who deserve their win."
