CENTRE-HALF Adam Willis has bemoaned Town's Jekyll and Hyde tendencies but hopes that their good side will emerge tonight against Millwall.
The 24-year-old is frustrated by the team's erratic form but takes consolation in their habit of following poor performances with much better displays in the next game.
Town recovered from the Bournemouth and Oldham debacles with commendable away draws at Tranmere and Swansea respectively, and the home defeat by Tranmere preceded a 3-2 win at Luton.
He took the unusual step of comparing the side to a fictitious car from a children's film.
He said: "We're a bit like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Good one minute but bad the next.
"We had a very disappointing result at Oldham but responded well at Swansea and could have come away with more than we did.
"Now it's important we do the same against Millwall following our disappointment against Bristol Rovers."
Willis is aiming to put Saturday's result behind him as Town entertain the high-flying Lions this evening.
"The important thing is that we've got this chance to bounce back against Millwall. We know it won't be any easier than against Rovers on Saturday.
"We know we're going to have our hands full but I'm sure we'll all be looking to raise our game against one of the best sides in the division.
"We look forward to all the games but they are extra special against the top sides.
"The 2-2 draw against Wigan the other week gave us a lot of heart. We played just as well as Wigan that day and thought we could really go on from there, but it just hasn't happened for us."
Town did not play particularly badly on Saturday, but they were let down by three isolated errors which gifted goals to The Pirates.
"We gave away three poor goals," said Willis. "I don't think we defended badly on Saturday. We defended as a unit but just conceded three really, really soft goals. There was no way they were 3-1 better than us.
"There were a couple of times we got behind their defence but the delivery into the box left a little bit to be desired. We need to find a bit of quality with our final ball.
"A season like last year takes a while to get out of your system. I know we've got a lot of new faces but all we can do is keep the performances going."
Willis was delighted to see Aussie Mark Robertson open his account for the club with a consolation penalty, but the celebrations were put on hold until this evening.
He said: "After tonight, we'll maybe have a few shandies with him. But not until after then.
"It was nice that he scored but when he sits down to talk about the goal with his grandchildren, perhaps he'll leave out the fact that the opposition scored three goals."
