TURNERS Tackle and Bait got their tactics spot on when they won the latest round of the Angling Times (Upper Thames Division) match held on a patchy River Thames at Medley and Donnington.

Their heavy groundbait tactics at the start paid dividends and secured them two anglers in the top three, with Gary Godwin taking ten bream from the green bank at Donnington for a 44-4-0 winner after he had introduced 20 balls of groundbait at the start and used worm and maggot cocktail on the hook.

Pegged next peg, Dave Wright of Drakes Bait went so close to a win but fell just short with his nine bream catch that weighed 42-9-0 which fell to double worm hookbait.

Top man at Medley was ex Talisman angler Paul Hitchman now with Turners, he also found heavy groundbait tactics at the start worked and he took third spot with 24-4-0 ahead of Richard Stephens (Talisman) 19-4-0 and G Hibbs of Isis was fifth with 17-1-8.

After coming second on the day Drake's Bait top the league at present after three rounds with the remaining three rounds on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
