A vision which would see seven new schools built in North Swindon is a step closer to becoming reality.
Councillors threw their weight behind the scheme at a meeting of Swindon Borough Council's policy commission.
The recommendations were made by a party of councillors studying the provision of education in the area The Northern Task Force.
The key points are:
Two new secondary schools, one at the Hreod Parkway site and another on a new education campus in the Haydon development area.
The creation of five new primary schools in the Northern sector.
New youth centres in More-don and the Haydon development area.
An investigation looking into new sports and community facilities.
Improvements in adult and continuing education facilities.
Details will go before the cabinet tonight (Wednesday) for the official go ahead. An additional recommendation will be made to examine the knock-on effects on another school in the north of Swindon, Headlands School.
A public consultation time will take place after the decision is made.
