SWINDON 20, BUCKINGHAM 9: Swindon regained their position at the top of Southern Counties (North) and extended their unbeaten run of league matches to 24 straight wins.

However any thoughts of an easy match based on Buckingham's lower league position were quickly dispelled at the start of the game as the visitors quickly asserted their authority and took the game to Swindon straight from the kick-off.

Buckingham made use of their heavier forwards and drove the ball at the smaller Swindon side.

After 15 minutes of pressure Swindon needlessly converted a free kick to the visitors into a kickable penalty in front of posts. The Buckingham fly half made no mistake and took his side into an early lead.

Adam Westall narrowly missed an opportunity to level the scores ten minutes later with a penalty kick that shaved the upright.

However, five minutes later Westall showed a flash of brilliance, dummying both centres to cut back inside and score under the posts. His easy conversion took Swindon into a 7-3 lead.

However, the visitors came straight back and, after only five minutes, a long range penalty crept over the bar to close the gap to 7-6.

On the stroke of half-time, Westall missed another opportunity to increase Swindon's lead, this time from his less favoured side of the pitch, on the right.

Buckingham exploded into life straight from the restart and put the Swindon defence under sufficient pressure for them to concede another penalty.

The Buckingham number 10 made it three out of three to take the visitors into a 9-7 lead.

Shortly afterwards, Westall also made it three out of three as he missed the simplest of his attempts in front of posts.

Ten minutes later, Swindon finally took the game by the scruff of the neck and utilised one of their set moves.

From the base of a scrum, just inside Buckingham's 22-metre line, number eight Mark Scarrott picked up, flicked the ball to scrum-half Jimmer Courtney who, in turn, released winger Guy Sturla to power down the outside and score in the left hand corner.

Westall made amends for his earlier attempts and slotted the ball between the posts with ease to take Swindon back into the lead at 14-9.

From here on it was Swindon who showed their strength and stamina as they increased their lead further with a Westall penalty to make it 17-9.

The Buckingham No 10 missed an easy penalty in front of the posts, and just before the final whistle, Westall put the nail in the coffin as he slotted home another three points to make it 20-9.

Swindon play away next weekend against Drifters from Slough, who are still looking for their first league win of the season.
