ALMOST 200 boxes of harvest produce were delivered to older residents of Wootton Bassett by Wootton Bassett School pupils after a festival assembly.

Head teacher Hylton Thomas and his deputy Peter Sheppard praised participants for their hard work in organising the harvest festival, which featured magnificent displays by each House.

Mr Sheppard said: "I doubt if anywhere in the country you will see displays like these at a school harvest festival. You should all be proud of this whole school project."

Drama teacher Jan Marshall read the poem, October, and there were choral contributions, directed and accompanied by music teachers Sue Nunn and Ursula Barham.

The senior choir sang All Good Things Around Us, from the musical Godspell, and a delightful setting of All Things Bright and Beautiful.

An instrumental ensemble enhanced the presentation.

Representatives of Year 7 tutor groups carried decorated baskets of produce to a central dais, to complement the main House displays.

A harvest story, related by Mr Sheppard, was illustrated by Year 10 pupils in a dramatic mime.

Mrs Marshall performed an amusing and thought-provoking piece proposing the introduction of a nine-month year and cancellation of autumn.

Berwick House Year 10 pupils then had the privilege of delivering the harvest gifts to the elderly.
