FIREFIGHTERS called to a minor blaze in the top floor of a property in Devizes Market Place on Friday, found themselves helping a young mum who had got into a jam.
Emergency services were called to the property at 30 Market Place shortly before 1pm on Friday. Contractors working on renovations had accidentally set light to some shavings and the blaze had spread to the frame of a dormer window at the top of the building.
While they were dealing with that, two police officers approached the firemen and asked for their help to release a small boy locked in a car.
It took the firecrew a few minutes to release him.
Not everyone was impressed. As they were preparing to return to Devizes fire station in Southbroom Road, they were approached by a passer-by who told them: "I think it is a disgrace that two fire engines are called out just to release a small boy from a car."
