KEEN minds were put to the test as children from Junior Schools around Wiltshire spent two days pitting their wits against each other in an annual regional chess tournament at Headlands School.
The youngsters, taking part in the Wiltshire Junior Schools Chess Congress, each played ten games within their age group.
Winners in the different age group categories were Richard Webb (under-14) from Warneford School, Daniel Hall from Lethbridge Infants (under-11), Alexander Cooper from Dauntsey Aided school and Toby Hall (under-9) from Lethbridge Infants.
Tournament organiser Sue Anderson said: "There were some really good displays of chess over the two days of the tournament and I think they all enjoyed themselves."
She added: "It was very encouraging to see so many taking part in the event over half term. We would have liked to see more under-eight and nines taking part."
Winners were presented with trophies and certificates for taking part as proud parents looked on. Runners-up were also given chocolate bars to mark their achievement.
Special praise was also given for the group of children who gave up two days of their half term holiday to help organise the event.
