THE decision on whether to hold a referendum on the future of Swindon's Front Garden has been postponed.
Councillors at Wednesday night's cabinet meeting were expected to decide whether every adult in the borough should have a say on the development of the rural buffer zone between Old Town and Swindon.
But Swindon Council leader Sue Bates suggested the referendum should be discussed not just by the 10 members of the cabinet but by all 59 councillors when they next meet together on Thursday, November 23.
Her motion was seconded by Conservative leader Mike Bawden, and approved unanimously.
But Terry King, chairman of the Front Garden Action Group was sceptical about a referendum. He said: "What guarantee do Swindon voters have that the council will take any more notice of any referendum result than they did in the public consultation two years ago?"
