THE guessing game has stepped into overdrive with everyone from Alan Ball to Terry Venables being touted for the vacant manager's position at the County Ground.
While coach Andy King has been put in temporary charge, Terry Brady would dearly love to appoint a manager with international pedigree.
However, Mr Brady admits there are slim pickings on the managerial tree and he may be forced to look closer to home.
Former Town heroes like Paul Bodin, Shaun Taylor, Chris Kamara and Colin Calderwood could come into the equation.
Shaun Taylor is currently in charge of reserve team affairs at Bristol City and is still contracted as a player at Ashton Gate.
He said: "I am on the first rung of the coaching ladder and am happy and settled at Bristol City.
"Swindon are a lovely club and the supporters deserve success. There are going to be lots and lots of people who want the job and it is up to the board to make the right decision."
Chris Kamara has forged a name for himself as a media pundit following managerial spells at Stoke and Bradford, although he was tempted to apply for the Town job following Steve McMahon's resignation.
"You can never say never but I am very happy what I am doing and it would have to be a really good job for me to consider going back into management," Kamara said.
Colin Calderwood wants to see out the remaining year-and-a-half of his contract at Nottingham Forest before considering his next career step.
"Management is something I would be interested in, but not at this moment in time," he said.
