REVIEW: Tempting Fate, The Arc, Trowbridge
THAT evening, a small corner of Trowbridge became a small corner of Spain.
Members of Trading Faces Theatre Company were in town and were portraying an adaptation of the story of Carmen.
The cast of four, who are also involved in running theatre workshops, portrayed this ultimately tragic tale with a mixture of humour, a man dressed as a bull, and a man dressed as a woman.
The set was simple, but effective. There was much interchange of characters between cast members.
This was achieved with a combination of excellent acting and the wearing of different masks.
This combination made each portrayal of each character wholeheartedly believable.
I was surprised at how well humour worked within the setting of such a tragic story.
The final, and most pointed, scene, the death scene, was expertly achieved using suitably subdued lighting.
