A mother whose son was hurt in an accident outside the family home has collected 1,000 signatures on a safety petition.
Lesley Hayward vividly remembers the day when her son Dale, five, was injured. She witnessed a motorbike hitting her son, who was standing astride his bike.
Dale is now at home but is unable to take part in some of his school activities such as physical education.
Mrs Hayward said: "We hope the county council listens to what the people want. Something needs to be done about the speeding cars and the general state of the roads and parking on the whole estate, not just Awdry Avenue."
On Monday night at a meeting of Melksham Town Council Mrs Hayward handed in a petition, signed by more than 1,000 people. Residents want to see speed restrictions, double yellow lines and speed humps and want Wiltshire County Council to help in the campaign.
Dale spent five days last month in Royal United Hospital in Bath. He suffered a broken collar bone and severe bruising just millimetres from his temple.
Mrs Hayward: "The doctors said Dale was very lucky, but someone else might not be, something needs to be done on all roads on the Forest estate."
The petition was passed on by the town council to Peter Binley, highways engineer for Wiltshire County Council.
