Calne Town 0, Clyst Rovers 2
IN this First Division mid-table battle, Calne found themselves up against a very tough-to-breakdown Clyst Rovers outfit, and in the end it was the Devon side who took their chances and returned home with all three points thanks to the clinical finishing of Rob McGahey.
Calne had the edge in the first half, the first opportunity falling to Stuart Greatwood thanks to some good build-up play from Paul Ranger and Toby Colbourne, but the midfielder screwed his shot wide.
After 23 minutes Colbourne almost connected with Andy Waller's centre five minutes later, but could not get enough connection to divert it goalbound.
Then came 30 seconds which changed the match, as just prior to half-time Clyst took the lead, McGahey capitalising on a defensive slip to shoot the Devonians ahead and just after half-time, straight from the kick off, the same player drove home powerfully from outside the box as Calne digested the half-time cups of tea.
Calne battled hard to get back into the match, Dave Clayton heading wide from Andy Waller's cross. Nick Taylor's shot from close in was cleared off the line and substitute Jack Heard headed a Waller corner kick wide.
In the last ten minutes Clyst should have taken advantage of Calne's lack of numbers at the back as Danny Hall was twice thwarted by Ali Wicks in Calne's goal.
Calne gained a point on Tuesday night with a goal-less home draw with Bitton
