CAMPAIGNERS demanding safety improvements on a killer stretch of the A350 have attacked the new 50mph speed limit as inadequate.
The A350 Action Group, formed after three people were killed in a horrific smash in July, say the lower limit is not enough to stop more deaths.
They are stepping up calls for double solid white no-overtaking lines on the 800-yard stretch of road between West Ashton and Yarnbrook.
Campaign spokesman Pauline Hume said: "The signs were uncovered at the weekend but we haven't noticed any difference in the speed, especially as the old de-restricted signs haven't been taken down.
"The 50mph speed limit is not enough by itself, we need rumble strips and 50mph signs painted on the carriageway, and the solid double white lines."
The action group meets next week to decide how to press for improvements.
Mrs Hume said: "We are not giving up now. Many people thought the 50mph speed limit was a bit pathetic, but it was better than what we had before."
The group collected 1,400 signatures on a petition in only one week after the triple death crash. The lower speed limit was rushed through by the county council after the deaths on July 25 of Melksham friends Adam Lumley, 21, and Craig Dicker, 24, and Tamara-Jayne Sheppard, five, from Calne.
Mr Lumley and Mr Dicker died when their Toyota MR2 flipped over and burst into flames. Tamara-Jayne Sheppard died when her family's Ford Escort plunged into a ditch as they travelled home from a visit to her grandparents. Her brother Ben, six, is still recovering at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
l Warminster-based army officer Giles Stibbe, 42, has been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving. Stibbe, of Chipping Norton, who is on bail, will appear before North West Wiltshire magistrates on October 5.
