Months of hard work have paid off, with Christmas lights finally being put in place in the centre of Swindon .
Just three weeks ago, it looked as if the scheme would have to be scrapped because of a lack of support by traders who refused to add to the £4,000 fund.
But a report in the Evening Advertiser spurred two major investors to save the day.
Town centre manager Bernie Maguire said: "It seems like it has been a really long year. It is very satisfying when you see the lights actually being put into place it is something solid after all the hard work we have put in.
"I think people are going to be pleased this year."
He added that planning for the Christmas events had started in January last year.
The lights will be switched on at 5.30pm on December 23 by Aleetza Wood, who plays Peta Janossi in the Aussie Soap Home and Away.
Entertainment will be provided by the Tanwood Dancers.
