Local people who make a difference in Swindon are to be honoured in a special ceremony tomorrow.

South Swindon MP Julia Drown will present certificates at the County Ground to Millennium Volunteers who are supporting Make a Difference Day.

The event is the UK's biggest single day of volunteering.

And it is expected that 30,000 people right across the country will be getting involved in the event.

Activities can range from simply taking a neighbour's dog for a walk to turning an old mill into housing for the homeless.

The event is organised by the national charity Community Service Volunteers.

Ms Drown said: "I know how much difference volunteers can make.

"Make a Difference Day is about using time and energy to get something done in your local community.

"Organising an activity with work colleagues or friends can make all the difference when it matters. Everybody can make a significant contribution."

There is still time for people to set up an activity of their own.
