ANDY KING signed his first player yesterday and immediately set his sights on keeping the County Ground job.

The former Everton star believes he has the experience to lead Town and asked for the fans to give him the support they showed Colin Todd.

King was due to take the side up to Notts County this morning in his first game and promised a number of changes to the line-up. One definite switch will be the inclusion of midfielder Ian Woan.

Now a free agent after being released by Barnsley earlier in the week, King believes he can make a difference to the side.

"Ian Woan is one quality player who has already appeared in the First Division for Barnsley eight times this season," said King.

"He has been released by the club and I am delighted that he has agreed to come and play for Swindon Town.

"Ian has a quality left foot. He is able to put the ball on a six-pence and will give us some balance on the left side. We have signed him up for a month but he could stay for longer if he proves himself."

King just about secured his services in time, pinching him from under the nose of his good friend Kevin Ratcliffe who was about to sign him for Shrewsbury.

King believes the fans will appreciate his craft.

"I read in the Evening Advertiser the other day that fans were missing a player like Mark Walters. In Ian Woan we have man who is capable of delivering the type of passes that can hurt teams."

He has the chance to take the job permanently with Colin Todd still in a wrangle over his stalled move to Derby County.

Town have asked Todd to take a few days leave while the situation is sorted but it is unlikely that he will return as manager.

"Terry Brady has been very, very supportive to me," said King. "He has mentioned that we can bring in new players, but I will only want to take in players who can fit into the side and retain balance.

"I do have a good belief in the present squad of players and feel sure that there is a thin line between us and getting things right on the pitch.

"If I thought this was a dead end job with no prospect of improvement then I would not have taken it. These players have got what it takes to turn things around."
