THIS is the man suspected of robbing an off-licence and threatening a pregnant cashier with a hammer.

The armed robber has not yet been arrested, but police hope the pictures will help to lead to him being identified. The man went into Park off-licence on Monday evening (October 23) at 7.30pm.

Inside the shop he threatened pregnant shopkeeper Shakeela Mahmood with a hammer and stole £140 from the till.

Police described the robbery as despicable and said that is was fortunate that both Miss Mahmood and her unborn baby did not come to any physical harm.

On Wednesday, Miss Mahmood, 22, told the Evening Advertiser how she was terrified when she realised the man was holding a hammer above her.

The man went into the shop and walked behind the counter, before grabbing hold of Miss Mahmood by the jumper and threatening to hit her with the hammer if she did not give him the money in the till.

She said: "I turned to look at him and then I saw that he had a hammer in his hand which he was holding above my head."

Police spokesman Geoff Hicks, said he was hopeful the man would soon be caught, thanks to the clarity of the pictures from the security camera.

He said: "The definition of the photos from the video are extremely good. We are hoping someone will recognise the man and report him to us."

The robber is described as white, of medium build, in his 20s and around 5ft 10ins to 6ft. He has short dark brown hair and dark eyes.

If anyone recognises the man they are asked to ring DC Steve Curtis on Swindon 528111, or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
