Saturday's local football fell foul to some atrocious weather conditions, with a total of 11 Screwfix matches postponed.

It did not affect Devizes Town however, as they were determined not to let the somewhat soggy weather dampen the atmosphere on their big day out.

They travelled to Richmond-based Kingstonian as underdogs, and despite acquitting themselves well, bowed out of the FA Cup at the fourth qualifying round stage.

The game was played in difficult conditions with driving rain and blustery winds, but the weather did not ruin a well-contested and lively game.

The final scoreline of 5-2 flattered their opponents slightly, as Devizes were only 3-2 down with 15 minutes still to play.

Manager Brian Newlands said "I was delighted with our performance, despite the result. The lads gave 100 per cent, and that is all I can ask from them.

"We had lots of travelling supporters, and I don't think we disappointed them with our performance.

"They were the better side out there, but I was happy with the way we played, and I felt we contested the game well.

"We scored two really good goals, but I was a little disappointed with a couple of the soft ones that we gave away."

Devizes' first goal was a Barry Flippance screamer from fully 25 yards, but even that was eclipsed by the goal of the game, a 30 yard drive from Andy Wicks.

This is only the second time that Devizes have ever reached this stage of the FA Cup in the club's 33-year history, and Newlands was just happy that his side did their best.

Elsewhere in the Screwfix Premier league, Chippenham Town put in a solid 1-0 home win against Somerset rivals Bridgwater Town.

They had another brilliant performance infront of a 280-strong crowd, and manager Tommy Saunders thanked these all-weather fans for their commitment.

"Considering the weather conditions, we were amazed with the turnout. We are really lucky to have such a great band of supporters.

"The win has moved us up to tied second in the league, with a game in hand over the Yeovil Town Reserves, who we share second place with.

"If we can finish in second place then we could get promotion, which would be great for the club."

Earlier on in the week, they had played Salisbury in the Wiltshire Premier Shield First round. Chippenham's injury-struck side could not manage to convert their dominance on the day, when they missed a penalty and had chances cleared off the line, eventually losing 1-0.

In the First Division, Pewsey Vale recorded their first win of the season against local rivals Corsham Town.

Pewsey went into the half-time break with a two goal lead thanks to strikes from Ian Farley, and Colin Cooper.

Corsham grabbed one back through David Kilmurray, but Pewsey secured a win with a Richard Morgan win.

The win was not enough to lift Pewsey off of the foot of the table, but they will be looking to rise to safety soon.

In the other first division game, Calne Town lost 3-1 to Hallen.

Melksham Town, Westbury United, and Warminster Town all had their games called off due to the weather.

Saunders said "It was a shame to loose, but really need to concentrate on our league form. We had a good cup run last year, but we could do with a good league position this year."

Newlands continued: "They were a really good side, and they had some really skillful players. We weren't expecting too much from the game because they are also the FA Trophy holders."
