BV Berry and Son butchers in Wroughton is going to be the first butcher in the area to be awarded a trading licence.
A new law states that from November 1, butchers selling both raw and ready-to-eat food need a licence from their local authority in order to trade.
The law comes after the major e-coli 0157 outbreak stemming from John Barr's butcher shop in Scotland.
Butchers have carried out a detailed study of the food safety risks involved in their business and are looking at ways that these can be avoided.
For the first time all of this has to be written down.
The licensing process is well underway in Swindon and all butchers needing a licence are trained to the required standard.
Environmental health officers are carrying out the final audits before the licences are issued.
Keith Berry will be presented with his licence at his Wroughton shop in Ellendune centre tomorrow morning.
