Friends of a little girl locked in a silent world have organised a fundraising evening to help pay for treatment which may help her communicate.

Caitlin Peck was diagnosed in May with Angelman Syn-drome, a rare genetic disorder which causes irregular- ities in the body's chromosomes and means sufferers are unlikely ever to say a word.

But doctors told the four-year-old's parents, Selina and Graham, that expensive dolphin treatment in Florida or a special machine which stores images may help their daughter.

The couple set up an appeal fund which has collected £1,500 so far through events organised by friends and family and they hope the next fundraising event will boost the coffers further.

The event takes place at Weston Community Centre in Rodbourne Cheney on Friday.

It features entertainment from special guest Mike Carter, a well-known singer who has appeared in Royal Variety performances.

Medium Christopher Pugh, who works with Mrs Peck at Farepak Hampers, will then be holding sessions to help people communicate with their loved ones on the other side.

"Because I work with Selina I have been very touched by Caitlin and wanted to help her as much as possible. A fundraising evening seemed a good idea to help boost funds," said Mr Pugh.

"I think it will be very popular and I am hoping lots of people will come."

Caitlin's parents, from Freshbrook, now have to decide whether to press on collecting the £10,000 needed to take their daughter to America or to use the funds raised so far to buy a Dynovox machine.

The machine would enable them to scan in pictures of their faces and other objects using a digital camera which Caitlin could use buttons to highlight when she wants something.

"We have to give Caitlin whatever has the greatest potential to help her communicate," said Mrs Peck.

"The machine will have a long term benefit for her, perhaps more so than the dolphin therapy.

"Our family and friends have been great helping us to raise money and this latest fundraising event is a lovely idea.

"Anything that helps Cailtin even if it is just support is gratefully received."

Tickets for the fundraiser, which runs from 7.30pm to 10pm, cost £3 and are available by calling Kath Chich-ester on 01793 693696.
