THE clean-up of storm-ravaged Wiltshire continued today.
Several roads remained passable only with extreme care or in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, although flood waters had begun to recede.
Sites affected included parts of Hannington near Highworth, the Farmers Roundabout in Melksham, the road between Great Somerford and Dauntsey and the A342 between Devizes and Upavon.
Flooding originally hit up to 150 roads across Wiltshire. Among them was the Malmesbury to Brinkworth Road, much of which was under water at the height of the bad weather.
Wiltshire Fire Brigade revealed it had dealt with more than 200 calls since the storms began on Sunday.
Brigade spokeswoman Val Hampshire said: We have answered more than 200 calls across the county but are coping. In particular we have been called to the centre of Swindon where there have been fallen trees and to Wanborough where there has been a lot of flooding.
PC Barry Penicud at the constabulary weather office said: We have been overwhelmed. Swindon itself is not too bad but the outlying areas have been badly affected.
We have been to Ashton Keynes (pictured) and Cricklade a number of times, chopping up fallen trees and directing traffic away and have also had quite a few problems in Melksham, where the River Avon is flooded, and Trowbridge.
Across Wiltshire some 36 schools were forced to close including St Catherines at Marlborough but for those in Swindon it was lessons as normal.
