WIZARD of Oz Danny Invincible conjured up a double helping of Halloween magic last night to lift everyone's spirits at the County Ground.
The Aussie striker bagged a brace of spectacular volleys and then spooked the Cambridge defence every time he touched the ball in a performance that had the home fans cheering for more.
His second double in as many games inspired Andy King's rejuvenated side to their first win in five matches. And there is no doubt now that King must be favourite to take on the role permanently.
He has injected a sense of belief and passion to players who, only a week ago, were looking jaded and frightened to play the game.
King's enthusiasm has touched everyone at the club and, with a bit of technical nous thrown in for good measure, he has transformed the team into a decent looking unit.
Of course, we cannot get too carried away with this one victory. Cambridge were a poor side on the night and there were times when Swindon stuttered and looked nervy.
However, coupled with Saturday's display at Notts County, it is plain to see that something good is developing.
Certainly, with Invincible now playing through the middle, King has a striker with pace, power and the ability to scare the bejesus out of anyone in Division Two.
With two more home games on the horizon, King must feel he is only a couple of decent results away from achieving his goal.
Those who doubted him before last night may now sit up and take notice. Maybe more people will venture out to cheer them on this weekend after a poultry 3,452 bothered to attend last night.
Those who did brave the chilly air were the winners, treated to a decent game of football which had that all-important ingredient victory.
Forced to switch things around with Sol Davis and Bobby Howe suspended, King played David Duke at left wing back and introduced Mark Robertson into the midfield.
As with Saturday, Town started brightly and went straight on the attack.
Only four minutes had gone when a short corner left Ian Woan with a shooting chance on the right side of the box which Lionel Perez gathered at the second attempt.
It didn't take long for Invincible to start his torment.
Nine minutes were on the clock when he latched on to a through ball from Antoine van der Linden and raced clear before cutting back and curling a left foot effort against the bar. He didn't have to wait much longer, however, for his goal.
A neat move ended with Robertson feeding Mark Robinson down the right wing. The defender crossed deep to the far post and when Steve McAnespie's poor header dropped invitingly in the box Invincible controlled it on his chest before striking a left foot volley low into the corner. It was a quality strike from a player who has visibly grown in confidence as he finally starts to show what he is capable of.
It was almost 2-0 four minutes later as Woan's long free-kick caused panic in the box and Martin Williams nipped in to scoop the ball narrowly over the bar.
It was all one-way traffic but, as with Meadow Lane three days earlier, Town then lost concentration and allowed Cambridge a lifeline.
A short period of pressure ended with McAnespie looping over a dangerous cross from the right, Robinson failed to clear and when the ball eventually fell to Zema Abbey he slotted it calmly under Bart Griemink.
For a moment the visitors had the upper hand and Adam Willis needed to be brave as he flung himself at a Jonas Axeldal effort.
But in the 35th minute Town regained the lead and it was that man Invincible who scored it.
A short corner left Woan the chance to cross deep from the left wing and the Aussie striker was waiting at the far post to crash in another unstoppable left foot volley past Perez.
The chants of "Are you watching, Colin Todd?" rang around the ground as Town started to put on a show.
In the 38th minute Invincible seemed almost certain to complete his hat-trick but as he latched on to a poor Neil Mustoe back-pass he rounded Perez but seemed to tread on the ball just as he prepared to roll it into the empty net.
A minute later and it was Williams who had the chance to score, picking up a quality 40-yard ball from Woan before cutting inside from the left flank and shooting low at Perez's near post where the keeper made a good block.
Minutes before the break Invincible again saw an effort fizz across goal and he continued the second half in the same vein.
Jinking between three defenders and firing a stinging shot goalward that Perez only just held onto.
Ten minutes after the break and Town extended their lead.
Robinson's cross was cleared to the edge of the box where O'Halloran was waiting and he crashed the ball past Perez for his first Town goal.
Invincible was still very much the man of the moment, however, and almost completed a stunning hat-trick when his overhead kick brought a smart save from Perez.
But Perez was in fine form and he pulled off another good save when he palmed away a fierce Woan effort that had deflected wickedly off the backside of Mustoe.
A fourth would have been nice, but let's not be too greedy.
