Millions of commuters will soon be able to admire a Swindon College student's artwork every day at dozens of stations between South Wales and London.

Craig Tiley, 17, from Desborough, Freshbrook, beat off hundreds of other entrants to scoop the overall top prize in a national competition to design a poster for train operator First Great Western.

The poster features the company's new state-of-the-art high speed train, the Class 180, which will be capable of speeds of 125mph and will have an ATP safety system installed.

The entrants' brief was to include the train whizzing past a landmark along the First Great Western route and former Greendown student Craig chose the White Horse at Uffington.

As well as having his design pasted onto billboards at stations all along the M4 corridor, Craig will receive more than £100 worth of artist's materials and equipment, train tickets, and will be a VIP guest at the official launch of the £80 million fleet of 14 trains next May.

Craig, who read about the contest in the Evening Advertiser, said: "I was so pleased when it was judged the best in the region for under 18s.

"But then it was the national winner in the under 18s and I was even more surprised when they said it was the overall best for all age categories.

"I've always loved painting and drawing, especially planes, boats, cars and trains. It's quite a nice feeling to know my work will be displayed in public. The idea behind it was to show the train speeding forward as though coming through the poster and a White Horse is obviously going to be recognised by everyone."

Craig is currently studying a design A-level at Swindon College and hopes to take graphic design at university, before following it through as a career.

His poster will be blown up to 2ft by 2ft in size and will be seen in public from next June.
