ONE down, two to go was the message from Andy King last night as he urged his side on to an unprecedented treble.

No Town side has managed to win three games on the trot for at least three seasons and King knows his improving side have a great opportunity to buck the trend over the next seven days.

Wins over Wycombe and Wrexham would not only lift Town away from the early strugglers in Division Two but it would also hand King the managerial reins.

His two games in charge have already showcased a much improved Town side.

They are creating a hatful of chances and looking stronger at the back. Now he wants to go a step further.

"We have earned the right to feel pleased with ourselves because there is a way forward for us," he said. "We have created chances and we have created goals and there is a spark about the play.

"But I did not think it was as good as Saturday. We have won this home match and there are now two more on the bounce and I expect to win them both. I have asked for seven points out of the nine but I will take nine out of nine and I will not accept any less than seven."

After completely out-playing Notts County on Saturday and coming away with nothing, King was simply desperate to get three points last night.

"I said I wanted a win and that I did not care how it come because I want the job," he said. "I was very upset at half-time, although we were winning 2-1, because we had enough chances to put the game out of reach. I am also very aware that players and crowds react to each other. If the players are negative on the pitch then the response comes from the crowd.

"The players have got to earn the right for the fans to get behind them. They have got to show something and I thought in the first half they looked under pressure and a little nervous."

But he believes the win will have given everyone a major boost after a tough week.

"We needed a result," he said. "I needed a result and the players needed a result. I am now a happy manager rather than, as I was on Saturday, a disappointed one.

"People were still getting into positions, having shots and there were great chances being created where in recent weeks we have not been creating.

"I was happy but I said to the players Colin Todd may have been a hard task master but I can be worse and I will want better from them.

"I think we were in charge of the match throughout but that to me was not quite good enough and I have to be honest and say what I see because it does nobody any good if I lie about things."
