CALNE Town Council has taken the initiative to ensure its staff are aware of the latest disability discrimination and human rights law.
Town councillor John Watkins, a disability equality consultant, offered to run the sessions and his idea was welcomed by council members and staff who attended the first session on Thursday October 26.
"We are the first local authority in Wiltshire that I am aware who has undergone disability equality training," he said.
"It was important in as far as everybody became up to date with current legislation and some of the issues surrounding discrimination."
Coun Watkins said he had had positive feedback from those who attended.
Town clerk Ann Kingdon said: "It was a very useful exercise."
A further session will be held in the next fortnight.
