THE London Mozart Ensemble is coming to Calne next week as part of a nationwide tour which aims to bring music to audiences outside major cities.
The ensemble, which will be touring America and Canada when it finishes its tour of the UK, will perform a popular programme at St Mary's Church next Saturday, including works by Vivaldi, Weber and Pachelbel, as well as Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.
Star clarinettist Emma Alexandra, a graduate of the Royal College of Music, who has performed across Europe and north America, will be among the performers.
Artistic director Garth Hall said: "Emma is delighted to be playing one of the finest pieces of chamber music ever written for the instrument, the Mozart clarinet quintet."
Mr Hall added: "This is something of a first for the town.
"The ensemble do not expect to surprise audiences with their choice of programme, knowing that some music is famous simply because of its exceptional beauty.
"The same can be said of some of England's smaller towns; some are famous for their beauty and others are known only to their inhabitants and the surrounding villages."
The ensemble is made up of members of London orchestras and freelance players and between them its members have played in virtually every major orchestra in the world.
The concert, which will be performed by candlelight, starts at 7.30pm, and tickets, which cost £10 and £7 for concessions, are available from the Bank House visitors' centre.
