ALMOST 400 people gathered in a field along the A429 near Corston on Friday night (October 27) to watch a giant bonfire and fireworks display organised by Malmesbury's Young Farmers' Club to raise money for charity.
Young Farmers' chairman, Margaret Panting, said: "We had a wonderful mild evening for the end of October and everything went very well. Our bonfire was massive and the fireworks were spectacular."
"For a little club, we certainly attracted a lot of people."
She said the event was attended by people of all ages from all over the Malmesbury district, as well as from Chippenham and Tetbury.
She said: "It was very much a family event, but I think that everybody enjoys fireworks and bonfires no matter what their age."
She said the evening had raised almost £800. Once the cost of the fireworks display had been deducted from the takings, the remaining money will be donated to charities within the Malmesbury area. Last year the club donated £500 to St John Ambulance.
Ms Panting said the club had members aged between ten and 26.
She said: "Members don't have to come from farming backgrounds. We have a lot of non-farming people too. We raise money for charity but we also have a lot of fun."
