AN oak tree is to be planted at the County Scout headquarters at Potterne Wick, near Devizes, on Saturday in memory of Scout leader Christopher "Fred" Oliver who died last year.
Mr Oliver, a 35-year-old lorry driver from Urchfont, fell to his death in Snowdonia National Park while leading a group of Scouts on the 2,680ft Cadr Idris peak during a weekend camping trip in October 1999.
A collection in his memory raised more than £2,000 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal and Urchfont Cricket Club dedicated the new clock on their pavilion in his name.
Now the Scouting movement is adding its tribute and district commissioner of Scouts, Philip Brown, will perform the ceremony at 3pm on Saturday. Anyone who knew Mr Oliver is invited to attend.
A reunion party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Urchfont Scouts, postponed from last year because of the accident, will take place at Urchfont Village Hall on November 25 at 7.30pm.
