DRAINS near the home of Pam Rozier have overflowed, filling her bungalow with sewage.

Her home in Arlington Close, Nythe, has been swamped by a sea of used toilet paper, old sanitary towels, and effluent.

She says she has continuously phoned Thames Water to get them to do something about it, but so far to no avail. Now she cannot step out of her privately-owned bungalow without feeling sick as the smell gets worse and worse.

Mrs Rozier, 58, who lives with her husband Michael and her 20-year-old son Matthew, said: "It's disgusting. This seems to happen every two or three months. When is Thames Water going to fix this problem permanently?

"On Tuesday the sun came out for a bit, and then the place really started to smell. I can't step out of the house.

"When I phoned Thames Water for the first time on Monday I was told that my situation was not a priority because of the extreme weather. But two days later, when there has still been no sign of it being fixed, despite constant phone calls, still nothing has been done."

According to Thames Water the last few days have been extremely busy. Spokesman Frank Shepherd said: "The exceptional levels of rainfall plus rivers bursting their banks and getting into the drain systems, mean that several sewage drains have overflowed.

"We have had several cases of sewage overflows and we are trying to clean them up as fast as possible. Because of the amount we have had, we have had to prioritise."
