JUST one look at the sparsely populated County Ground stands was enough to show Andy King the size of his task.
It was his first game in charge at the County Ground and there was no doubting the need for three points.
However, the lack of support from the fans came as something of a blow to the caretaker boss. Less than 3,500 attended the match the lowest crowd for many a year at Town.
It was a big disappointment for King.
"When I walked out and saw the empty stands I thought nobody believes in us," he said. "I thought, nobody believes that we played well on Saturday, and it did bother me that we did not have a great deal of support.
"I thought it was a reflection on me. I must be honest. I walked up to the dugout thinking the fans do not believe in me.
"Colin Todd was a high profile manager and people believed in him. At the moment they are all looking at me and saying who's he."
After Danny Invincible's double strike the fans did find their voice and sing King's name, but he knows how fickle fans can be.
"They were singing my name at the same time as singing they didn't need Colin Todd," he said. "But then Cambridge scored and had they notched another then they would have been singing for Colin to come back. But that sums the game up these days.
"It is up to us to lift them. Perhaps we have something here to build on and to give the crowd and everyone a boost."
