FOUR more security cameras could soon be installed in Warminster town centre to combat violent disorder and vandalism in areas not covered by the existing system.
The CCTV committee is applying for Home Office funding for four cameras in Chinn's Court, Silver Street, the central car-park and the hospital car-park, which would bring the number of cameras in the town to 17.
The bid is being prepared by the committee and has to be submitted for consideration by December 22 .
A £67,000 three-camera system was installed in the Lakeside Pleasure Park in July to combat drug problems, bullying and suspected paedophilia.
The school half-term break last month was the first time the cameras have been put to the test, with cases of bullying and drug abuse among the incidents being detected.
Police attended all the incidents immediately, mainly due to the rapid response from the camera operators.
Warminster mayor and chairman of the CCTV committee Ultan Ryan said the cameras has already proved their effectiveness.
He said: "There have been a few incidents which were highlighted in the park, one to do with drugs and several other cases of kids bullying younger kids.
"They have all been dealt with by the police and all as a result of the cameras.
"We are working together with the police now which increases the amount of detected crime and the police can get out as quickly as possible to stop any crimes."
A fourth new camera will go up in Weymouth Street on the Safeway roundabout in the next couple of weeks.
