Chippenham Town 1, Bridgwater Town 0
CHIPPENHAM Town manager Tommy Saunders was not only delighted with his side's 1-0 Premier Division victory, but also with the attendance, as fans came to see their side despite the cold, wet, windy weather.
It was Town's third successive victory, and one which Saunders felt they thoroughly deserved.
"Our performance was excellent, especially given the conditions," he said.
"The weather made it difficult, but both sides tried to play football, and in the end we were the better side and thoroughly deserved the points."
With champions Taunton suffering a surprise home defeat against Bridport, Chippenham are well placed in the top three of the Premier Division table, with hopes remaining high of another successful season.
"I'm very pleased with our current form. We've not quite reached the highs of last season, but if we can hang on up there until Christmas, I think we can make a good push towards the end of the season."
Bridgwater survived a scare after 26 minutes, Julian Stearne denying Nick Tiley with the goalkeeper beaten.
Chippenham took the lead five minutes into the second half, when a cross from Tiley cross found Nathan Rudge, who scored at the far post.
Chippenham begin their defence of the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday when they entertain Wiltshire neighbours Warminster Town in a preliminary round tie.
They will do so without the services of midfielder Lee Collier, who has moved to Team Bath, the team of University of Bath, where Collier is to begin a degree course.
Hallen 3, Calne Town 1
THIS First Division game, played in quite awful gale force conditions, found Calne wanting as they failed to adapt to the conditions as well as their hosts, and returned pointless.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Calne started well, forcing the Bristol side back. Toby Colbourne whistled a shot just wide and Nick Taylor was denied by a superb save from goalkeeper Richard Weston.
Hallen then began to push forward and took the lead with a well struck 20-yard free kick from Dylan Dale after 13 minutes.
Calne drew level 15 minutes later when Hallen goalkeeper Weston slipped while kicking out and Colbourne pounced onto the loose ball.
The second half saw Calne boxed in as Hallen used the wind to their advantage, although some initial difficulties found most passes overshooting their targets until Dale escaped on the left and his pin-point centre was headed in by Nicky Summerhill on 65 minutes.
Calne's reaction was to push centre-half Nick Taylor forward, squeezing Hallen back. The best equalising opportunity fell to Steve Alford, but he shot over following Andy Waller's corner kick.
With the game stretched and the sun making a guest appearance, Hallen extended their lead, through Andy Cook in the final minute.
Calne entertain Worle St John on Tuesday night.
Corsham Town 1, Pewsey Vale 3
THE confidence of new manager Don Rogers is clearly being passed on to to his Pewsey Vale side, as they gained their first First Division game of the season in the former Swindon Town legend's first game in charge.
While Pewsey remain at the foot of the table, Rogers feels the tide is turning.
"We've turned the corner now, and it's just a matter of time before we start climbing the table," said Rogers. "We were the better side and deserved the win."
The blustery conditions played a big part in this local derby encounter.
The first chance fell to the home side when a cross to the far post by Simon Bray fell to David Kilmurray who shot wide.
It was the Vale who went into the lead in the 15th minute when they broke out of their own half and a deep cross from the left side fell to Ian Farley, who finished well. Pewsey went 2-0 ahead when Colin Cooper fired home following a series of corners.
Straight from the start of the second half Corsham's Kilmurray broke through a static Pewsey Vale defence to strike the ball past the Pewsey goalkeeper John Haines to pull a goal back.
Near the end, Pewsey broke from their own half when and a Colin Yeates' shot was only parried by Chaplin, the ball fell straight to Richard Morgan who fired into an empty net.
Pewsey are away to Hallen this Saturday.
