PETER Moss was the Highworth hero in their 6-0 away cup victory over Bicester Town.

The striker had a hand in the first five goals, scoring twice and helping out in the other three.

Highworth keeper Mark Turner kept his side from going behind in the opening exchanges, making two excellent saves as the home side pushed men forward.

Highworth weathered the opening storm and took the lead on 22 minutes, Moss squaring for Justin Miller to tap into an empty net.

Two minutes before the break they added a second, when a long ball out of defence was headed on by Keith Walker for Moss to run through and score.

Soon after the restart Nathan Holt swapped passes with Moss before shooting past the keeper and on 75 minutes Moss finished off a fine solo run by netting the fourth

Five minutes later Moss was brought down in the box and Dave Webb added a fifth from the penalty spot.

Substsitute Rob Etherington came on for the injured Moss and completed the scoring. Matthew Debell, making his debut for the club, squared an excellent ball for Etherington to score.

Fairford Town also gained an excellent cup victory beating a rapidly improving Yate Town side 3-0.

The home side started well and recent signing from Highworth Town Pete Horwat had a hand in the opening goal, scored by Lee Morse after only eight minutes. Morse was again on target on 37 minutes, Stevenson and Horwat combining well to cross to the near post for Morse to glide in.

Just before the break a long throw by Martin Thompson caused trouble in the Yate penalty area and Scott Burry was on hand to score a third.

Swindon Supermarine's game against RS Basingstoke was abandoned at half-time, with the South Marston side leading 1-0, thanks to a goal cored by Pete Farrow in the opening few minutes.

Purton almost caused a shock cup upset when they shared eight goals with Premier Division Almondsbury Town after extra-time in an exciting first round tie at The Red House.

The home side more than held their own in the opening 20 minutes but fell behind on 27 minutes when a defensive error allowed Steve Rice to intercept a loose ball and tap into an empty net. There were no further goals in that half despite near misses at both ends.

Purton equalised on the hour when Ross Kent ran through and rounded the goalkeeper.

On 70 minutes Damien Taggart restored Almondsbury's lead. Five minutes later Purton were on level terms again when Jimmy Wright converted an excellent cross from Mickey Heath. The goal was followed three minutes later by Almondsbury's Andy Watts, who cut in from the flank and challenged to regain his side the lead. Jimmy Wright missed a free header but atoned a few minutes later when his shot on goal rebounded for Mickey Heath to fire into the net and take the tie into extra time.

In the first period Purton took the lead when substitute Paul Blanchard hit a great left footer over the Almondsbury goalkeeper from 18 yards. The home side should then have sealed the tie as Courtney Chessill, who had a great game for Purton, struck the bar and Blanchard shot wide when handily placed.

The missed chances proved costly in the second period when a hopeful ball forward fell to Purton's Mark McMeeking who slipped on the treacherous surface attempting to clear and Taggart nipped in to equalise and force a replay at Almondsbury this weekend.
