FAMILIES in Winsley were left disappointed when the village school was forced to cancel its annual firework display.
The event was due to be held on the school playing fields last Saturday but the Parent Teacher Association was advised to cancel the event because the firework company in charge said the field was no longer safe for such a large display.
Janet Fitzjohn, chairman of the Governors of Winsley School, said people had been disappointed but new regulations meant the event could not go ahead.
She said: "Although the event has been held in the same place before, the firework company said they would not be able to put on the display because it was too close to the neighbouring houses.
"It was disappointing, especially because it is a big fundraising event."
