A MAN is facing a criminal damage charge over the alleged making of a crop circle during the summer.

The man, currently on police bail, is due before Devizes Magistrates Court on Monday, Octobet 30, and was one of two people arrested and questioned after a police raid on a house in the town Thursday.

It is believed the arrests were made following the creation of a circle in crops at a farm in West Overton near Marlborough in July. Police acted after they received photographic evidence.

There has been great debate about how crop circles are created. Theories range from wind patterns to aliens.

But it is widely accepted that many are the work of hoaxers, who are able to create intricate patterns in pitch black at the dead of night.

Scores of circles appeared during the summer in Wiltshire, especially in the Avebury and Marlborough area.

The two men arrested were questioned by detectives at Salisbury Police Station.
