CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save a threatened school bus service are celebrating victory.
The Bus 81 Protest Group was formed by the parents of 50 children who travel between their North Swindon homes and Warneford School in Highworth.
The are not entitled to school bus passes because they live outside Warneford's catchment area. Swindon Council had planned to cancel the 81 service as an economy measure.
Young people were faced with the prospect of travelling by taxi or being driven to school by their parents.
Some parents feared they might have to remove their pupils from Warneford and transfer them to schools nearer home.
In a day of action last year, the protest group drove the children to school in a bid to demonstrate the traffic problems they claimed would result.
However, the council has reached an agreement with bus company Stagecoach in which parents and the council will pay £1.10 per child per day, saving the service.
The deal is expected to be approved at a council meeting on Monday, November 6.
