Trowbridge 5,

Cooper-Avon Tyres 12 (aet)

IN atrocious conditions, both sides came out of this Dorset and Wilts Plate game with credit for the way they played good rugby in a very close encounter.

Trowbridge had the better of the first half and with their forwards in control, took a 5-0 interval lead when, following several phases of play, scrum half Dave Sullivan dived over to score.

Cooper-Avon came into the game in the second half and with the Trowbridge hooker sin-binned they equalised when number eight Marc Bound touched down.

Both sides had chances to win the game in normal time but with both sides defending well the match went into extra time.

The first ten minute period of extra-time was marred by a neck injury to Avon winger Matt Glover. The game was held up for half an hour as he was attended to, but thankfully x-rays showed there was no serious damage, although he will miss several games.

When the game restarted Glover's replacement Ashley Collins broke three tackles to score a fine try under the posts which was converted by Paul Simmons.

Trowbridge dominated the second period of added time but the visitors' defence held firm to give them a much needed victory.

The third fifteen travelled to Walcot and were beaten 37-0.

Colerne 3, Trowbridge 2nds 36

IN a strong wind and driving rain, Trowbridge produced a good fluid performance and maintained their defensive lines to keep out the spirited Colerne side.

After falling behind to an early penalty, Trowbridge quickly responded with their forwards driving up the pitch for scrum half Tom Hanham to finish off the move with a strong run to score under the posts. Tony Speed added the conversion.

From the restart Trowbridge worked their way back into the opposition's 22, where they won a line out. From the catch and drive a try was scored in the corner by Jeremy Almond. Jamie Little was next to score after good work and a stunning run from prop Bill Chidlow. Number eight Jason Reed added a further try to make the half-time score 22-3 to Trowbridge.

Trowbridge added two tries in the second half from Reed and Andy Barlow and two conversions by Speed.
