ALAN ReeveS agreed that Town's caretaker boss should be handed the mana-ger's hotseat and bring an end to a period of turmoil at the club.
The skipper's last-gasp effort against Wycombe Wanderers secured a priceless point for Town and did no harm at all to Andy King's prospects of landing the job he craves.
Reeves said: "I want him to get the job. We all do. We don't want more upheaval. There's been too much of that. Since I've been here, in just over two years, we've had four managers. The club is in a better position now than it's ever been."
Reeves said: "Andy is all about passion. He is a passionate man about his football. What you see is what you get. There are no airs and graces.
"If he thinks you're in the wrong he'll tell you. If you've done well he'll pat you on the back."
The skipper was delighted to have netted the goal which secured the point he felt his side thoroughly merited.
"We deserved it. A lot of things went against us. This season we have folded a couple of times when we've gone a goal behind but I think there is a bit more character in the team at the moment.
"We dug in, ground out a result and we could have won it in the end. I was just pleased to get to the ball after it came off the crossbar and studded it in."
The Town captain praised his teammates for the way they coped with a Wycombe side which arrived at the County Ground in sixth place.
"We knew this would be the hardest of the three home games we have in a row. But as it turned out we made them look a pretty average side. Even when we went down to ten men they were on the back foot, sat behind the ball and then tried to hit it up to their big lad on the break.
"They didn't even try to use the extra man, which says something for us in that they knew we could play," he said.
The former Wimbledon man's late strike was his fourth goal of the current campaign.
However, he does not believe he will be heading the club's scoring chart at the end of the season.
It was unlikely he would enjoy a prolific season in front of goal, he said.
"I'm just on a bit of a roll at the moment, early in the season. If I can nick a couple more, I'll be more than happy. But it's important we get goals all round the team. Keith (O'Halloran) got one the other day. Danny (Invincible) is doing his bit. If different people can get the goals, that'll obviously help us," he said.
The captain's performance drew praise from Town's on loan midfielder, Ian Woan.
He said: "He's full of spirit, perhaps from his Wimbledon days. He's all heart is Alan Reeves. He works his socks off for the team."
Woan was delighted with the never-say-die attitude of his teammates against Wycombe.
"You've got to take your hat off to the boys. They had everything going against them. We conceded when we were on top but that's what happens when you're a little bit up against it.
"The boys showed a lot of bottle. The crowd were getting a little bit upset with us, but we kept plugging away and got the point," he said.
Antoine van der Linden, Reeves' fellow central defender, was also delighted with Town's point.
"I didn't think we were going to get it, but fortunately we did. It was a brilliant result with just ten men. I think we did that very well."
"Our gaffer has told us that when things are not going your way you can only fight for everything to try to change it.
"The team spirit here is tremendous. Everything is looking up," said the defender.
